Message gauge pod for the din pocket. In that I'm going to install a coolant temp, oil temp, and volt gauge. I should be gauged out after that. While I was driving in I called the hanger and had them waiting out front with the Raytek (Laser pyrometer). My plan was to pull up, pop the hood, and do some quick checks.

Naturally since I had plans just before I clocked in I caught the train and that ate up my extra time. So I'll try again tomorrow if the temps hot like today.

People have made reference to the non linear nature of the gauge so I'm aware of that. About 2 weeks ago I used the Raytek with a co-worker and monitored the temps during warm up. To follow the gauge I disconnected the fan and let it run. I had him point the Raytek right at the base of the coolant temp sensor and read the temps off in 10 degree increments and then the actual temp by degree after 180 while I watched the gauge.

If I remember correctly the aux fan came on at about 205 and at 210 I connected the rad fan. The gauge was at about 6/10's of it's swing from the bottom and was moving smoothly. The Raytek showed the temp hit 215 and then it took about a minute before the temps started to drop. Probably the time it took the now cooled coolant to circulate through the engine. The 4k fan brought the temps down sharply after that and it settled at 193.

That quick test was done at night when it was about 89 degrees out and humid.
